“When your body, mind and soul are healthy and harmonious, you will bring health and harmony to those around you, and health and harmony to the world.” -BKS Iyengar
At Smiling Dog Yoga, we present over 35 yoga classes each week in a variety of styles to serve the different needs of people of all ages and from all walks of life. If you are looking to get started in Yoga, try our Intro Offer $40 for 30 days, check out our class schedule, or drop by our center. It is our desire that each individual practice in his or her own way so that everyone will live a long, happy life, comfortable in their own skin and free from injury and pain. Yes, yoga can help you do this. More than just a yoga studio, although yoga is the proverbial backbone of our business, Smiling Dog is also a vegetarian lunch cafe, massage therapy and acupuncture center, as well as a unique eco-conscious boutique. We hope that you will take some time to navigate our website to learn more about all that we have offer, but more importantly, we hope you’ll drop-in and experience the whole community of Smiling Dog in person.
It’s easy to see that Yoga is becoming increasingly popular and more widely practiced. You are here because you practice yoga already or perhaps are interested in beginning. Isn’t it curious that this very old, somewhat mystical system of knowledge is finding new importance today and here in the western world, so culturally different from the soil of the east where it sprung? We live in difficult times, times of crisis, times of intense distractions, times of stress, and it seems that Yoga is finding such relevance in our times because it offers teachings that help to ground us in our physical and psychological reality and techniques that catalyze growth and evolution.
In yoga, we find brilliant and yet simple practices to revitalize our ever-changing body, to heal our wounds and injuries, to purify our nervous system, to rest our mind and to enjoy greater energy and better health. Whomever practices yoga will be enlivened in his or her own way: this is what we stand by at Smiling Dog. Practicing Yoga appropriately and respectfully can help all of us live more conscious lives and transform our world today.
Even physiologists who don’t do yoga now agree that the practice provides benefits well beyond flexibility and relaxation. Recent research—though preliminary—shows that yoga may also improve strength, aerobic capacity, and lung function. If you practice yoga, you already knew that. But if, like others, you’ve been told by friends, family, doctors, or even other yoga students that you need to add some running for your heart or strength training for your muscles, here’s evidence that yoga is all you need for a fit mind and body.
Smiling Dog Yoga was founded in 2008. The name was chosen because who doesn’t love a smiling dog with their goofy, drool covered, toothy grins? They remind us to smile ourselves, wag our tails, love each other, enjoy life, and not take ourselves too seriously. More tail wagging, less barking please!
